Brief Introduction

In honor of my cat's memory, I opened a special store on Zazzle.com, selected three rescued cats, and began to (digitally) paint them. My artist royalties (usually between 10 & 20% of the purchase price) will be donated to the shelters housing these animals. Know a great shelter or rescue? Nominate them here.

About the Shelter Painter Project

Introduction
I am the founder of Shelter Painter. On December 4, 2009, my beloved cat was diagnosed with advanced bone cancer and died peacefully at the vet's office the following day. To say she helped me survive some very difficult times in my life would be an understatement. Without her, I truly doubt I would be alive today. Her death was devastating and left me struggling with depression, but over the last year I've realized that the impact of her life is so much more powerful. I want to find a way to give back somehow, and I hope I've found it here. Let's give it a try!

Premise
Shelter Painter is a art project devoted to no-kill animal shelters/rescues and pet adoptions. Artists create pieces of art inspired by real animals living in US-based shelters. These pieces are uploaded to our Zazzle store, where they are sold as prints, mugs, iPad and iPhone cases, and more! The project earns a percentage of each sale, called a royalty. ALL royalties are donated to the shelters in the project.

I'm also hoping to raise awareness and possibly help (in my own small way) to find homes for these beautiful pets.

SP Online
The Website: Shelter Painter.com
Shelter Painter's official gallery is posted there (including the pet's photo and info, the painting, and small product previews). But ShelterPainter.com is more than just a gallery. You can also find news, our social media links, referral links to Amazon and Zazzle (these links benefit SP), a map of the USA showing where the shelters are located, a contact form, and general links too. A shelter-only resource section of the site is in the design stage, and we hope it will help these organizations take advantage of their SP artwork!

The Blog
Why blog? I want a place to talk about my loss, the beauty my cat brought to my life, and about the adoptable pets I decide to paint during this project. Your feedback, questions, and comments are welcomed and I look forward to hearing from you! If you're more of a reader than a commenter, I want you to know that I appreciate your support as well. Thank you for reading, and have a great day!
